Fauna was formed by Catar_sys and Color kit in the year 2003. These two programmers decided to search for their American identity in their productions to enrich their Anglo-Saxon roots. So they took American elements like reggae, cumbia, reggaeton, cumbia villera, baile funk and they mixed them with Saxon electronic beats like IDM, Jungle and Break Beat. With time, these instrumental productions were enriched with raga and hip hop rhymes, giving birth to their live duo. This mix of styles in Argentina is called "Tropitronica" Fauna setting the bar for the genre. These days Tropitronica and others like Baile Funk (from the favelas of Brazil) are being exported by renowned artists like M.I.A, who mentioned them in the magazine Rolling Stone in December 2005. Thanks to their hits: Alojote, A puro Caribe, Macumbia, Se me rompío la Programación, and Gauchito Gil, Fauna has participated in events in Buenos Aires like +160 (Drum n Bass parties thrown by Bad Boy Orange), Drum & Boxx (organized by the journalist Mariano Del Aguila), Clandestina (party thrown by DJs Pedigree). Locally (Mendoza) they have played at Primavera Electronica (organized by Tu Alegria), Déjà vu TV, anti-Bush protest (organized by Metric), and the Drum n Bass Army, organized by Perla Marina, a group of artists of which Fauna is a part. Their tracks are included in sets by known DJs like DJ Uter, Bad Boy Orange, CodeKat, DJs Pedigree, Villa Diamante, Leo Garcia DJ Set, DJ Ale K-Stro, Kovic, among others. Their LP and Videos are produced by Jauguaritech.
