Ulises Conti is a composer, pianist, interdisciplinary musician, sonorous artist who plays an ambiguous role in the local music scene. His music cannot be classified as belonging to any specific genre. He has released two albums with record company Metamusic: "Iluminaciones" in 2003 and "Pacifico" in 2005. He has been involved in several film, theater, dance, video, installation, and audio projects. His music was recently released in Japan and Europe, where he performed in quite a few cities and festivals. His newest album Los Paseantes just came out in 2007. Press - Los Paseantes Los Pasaseantes is haunting. With a subtle yet strong composition filled with strings, horns, highs and lows, the album is a journey into the mind of one of Buenos Aires's most encouraging and emerging talents. Ulises Conti is a 31-year old classically trained composer from the streets of Buenos Aires. Coming from a working class background, he is the first artist in his family. At the age of 15 he found an interest in music, and driven by personal restlessness began to compose. Music for him is a personal discovery, with his composition functioning as his own language, a way for him to communicate on a deeper level with those willing to listen. This search has brought him from punk music in his teenage years to classical music and jazz later on. Ulises is a hybrid of two worlds, the gritty streets of Buenos Aires and the high culture and lofty world of academia. Combining a refined form with underlying raw emotion, his music is beautiful, eclectic and demonstrates just how comfortable Ulises feels within his own chaos. In 2003 Ulises released his critically acclaimed debut album Iluminaciones, igniting his professional career. Illuminaciones sold out in Japan, was released in Europe and showered with praise here in Buenos Aires. The album became his business card to the art world, opening doors that have enabled him to also help other talented artists hone their craft. In recent years Ulises has been involved in theater, dance, cinema, musical installations, orchestras, runway shows and more. Earning a living in modern day Buenos Aires through art is no easy task, yet Ulises has thrived. Los Paseantes is a break from his last album Pacifico, which found him experimenting digitally with electronic sounds and jazz. The new release returns back to the sounds of his first album as a completely acoustic, orchestral, and complex work. Composed with 15 musicians, it could be considered a contemporary Porteño symphonic piece. In Ulises' own words, "it's to sit down and listen to." And that is exactly what we recommend. Find a quiet place to digest this album and take a journey into Ulises' world. GCD - Originally written for the magazine Wicked BA. Ulises Conti´s Website
