Desde Buenos Aires Argentinaaaaaaaaaaaa...El Hijo de la Cumbiaaaaaaa

Photos by Evan Browning

Emiliano Gomez, aka El Hijo de la Cumbia, is in a class by himself. His productions are sonic balls of fire, modern digital fueled Cumbias of tropical heat. One would never know it when meeting this mild mannered early twenty something pibe from the outskirts of Buenos Aires. His demeanor is calm, relaxed, but when the layers are peeled back, a genuine music head and passionate producer is revealed. And when his fingers click on the mouse to open up a track of his, or he hits the play button of the CD-Js, a Cumbia juggernaut emerges to life.

This mixtape, La Ventana Esta Abierta (The Window is Open) is representative of what El Hijo de la Cumbia brings to the table. Anything goes, everything goes, anything and everything MUST GO. Borders are illusions, genres and classifications are born every day, then destroyed and made new. "Music is the language that unites us." The Window is Open, let the fresh air blow in.

Soon his long awaited LP, Freestyle de Ritmos, will be released, but until then one can get a taste of what´s to come with this brief glimpse into his world or even better, come and see him live at Zizek this Thursday. Bass heavy psychodelic club cumbias with a mellow disposition. We could write all day, and trust us, many will, but for now we’d rather let the music do the talking. Ladies and gentleman once again, El Hijo de la Cumbia.
