Gaby Kerpel is one of our favorite musicians. The first time we saw him back in 2005 in La Trastienda was fascinating. Axel K had raved about his audio-visual show, we met Juana Molina that night and there was magic in the air. Years later who would know we would start working with him, take him to SXSW and put out an album of his all under the name of his newest project, King Coya (coming soon).
Combining Latin American indigenous and folkloric sounds with modern technology is what he does best. His album Carnabalito was put out by Nonsuch Records and produced with the Oscar winning mega producer Gustavo Santaolalla. He also is behind the scores for De La Guarda and Fuerza Bruta, 2 high impact Argentine performance plays that have seen residencies in NYC, London and have performed throughout the world. Needless to say, this cat knows music.
Gaby will be presenting his one man show, Techno Folk, this Thursday at the beautiful El Nacional bar in San Telmo. If you´re reading this after Thursday, you´ve got 2 more opportunities to check him out, this Sunday and next at Notorious, a cool music bar downtown.
Thursday August 21 El Nacional - Estados Unidos 302, San Telmo 9pm - $25
