Sentimiento/Pensamiento

The newest video from Julian Castro and Axel Krygier Sentimiento/Pensamiento, won the best video award this past weekend at FAV4. Here´s the story.

Sentimiento/Pensamiento is a track off Axel´s new album, Zorzal, but the story of the song goes back more than 17 years. Axel started to compose Sentimiento/Pensamiento in 1991 while living with his mother. 3 years later he started to record the voices for the track. And in 2005 he mixed it for his album.

Last year, in a warehouse in Villa Crespo, the video was shot in one day with the help of a handful of talented artists and good friends.

Sentimiento/Pensamiento

The song which uses deep distorted voices inspired Axel to think of a Minotaur, half man, half bull. Its aesthetic is a homage to Jean Cocteau. From there Axel, who also experiments as a visual artist, started to cut out silhouettes (without previous designs) on poster board for the video. The silhouettes were then animated and shot by moving them around by hand, nothing digital, completely analog. This “theater of shadows” or “playback of images” is the video behind the video.

What is real and what is fantasy, what is thought and what is feeling – Sentimiento/Piensamiento.

After the footage was tweaked and transformed by Julian Castro. Julian was then called in to be the director of the video, even though the video was already taking shape, Julian, together with Axel, would give the video its final form. In the Villa Crespo warehouse, on loan, all the elements came together and the idea was transformed into reality.

Sentimiento/Pensamiento

Julian and Axel met when they were about waist high, both studying at a music school here in Buenos Aires. Years later their friendship continues to grow as some of the cities most interesting and creative artists. Other collaborations include Julian VJing live at Axel´s live shows.

The production crew:

Federico Cantini – Director of Photography

Daniela Lieban – Makeup & Wardrobe

Alejandro Baamonde – The Mask

Flor Gama – Production

Dick el Demasiado & Manu Schaller - Cameo Roles
