Disco Shawn came to Argentina to get away from the rat race for a while. To take a break, relax, enjoy life. In Berkley he had a full time radio show, DJed every week and had a record label that managed a smattering of up and coming indie bands. After writing about all of us for so long, we figured it was about time to write about him! In Buenos Aires his days were spent sightseeing, eating out and catching up on digital internet TV transmitted directly from the USA to his laptop computer. Because hey, why not? After a while however his life in Buenos Aires slowly but surely started to imitate his former life back home, at least the fun parts. Some people are just made to move and shake, Disco Shawn, however much he tells you he “isn’t working” is one of them.
Lets take a deeper look at what Shawn Reynaldo has accomplished in 11 months in Buenos Aires. - -Regular DJ gigs around town including: Zizek, Compass/Phonorama, La Mecha Corta, Brilla, Nu School Hip Hop, 2 Wicked parties and a handful of houseparties at CC Annita and other private parties. -A weekly radio show on Operacion: Escuchar, Radio Nacional Faro 87.9 -A great expat blog with more updates than some big bilingual hip city website. -Published articles in Wicked, WUBA and XLR8R magazine. -Appeared on a collaboration with Lovely Chords, which eventually made it to one of the most influential electronic music blogs on the web, Palms Out Sounds. (Refusenik, days later, would rock the track at Super Zizek much to the chagrin of Shawn and Rachel on the dancefloor). -Starting a new record label, Bersa Discos, with the intent on getting hot bootleg cumbias from Buenos Aires to the world, with fellow Bay Area digital cumbia producer Oro11. -Trips all around South America including Argentina, Uruguay, Bolivia, Chile, and Brazil. Needless to say, we are sad he is leaving. Expat life is a constant coming and going of wandering souls, and it was good to have Disco Shawn for a hot minute in BA along for the ride. Catch Disco Shawn´s farewell performance this Wednesday at Zizek!

Disco Rachel and Disco Shawn. Bon voyage homies.
